As the first Apple audio and video cable to support the iPhone and the late 2007 iPods, the Component AV Cable ($49) permits the iPod nano (video), iPod classic, iPod touch and iPhone to output both audio and video signals from their Dock Connector ports, and simultaneously charges their batteries with an included USB Power Adapter. Unlike the Composite AV Cable, the Component AV Cable has five total video and audio plugs — left and right stereo audio, plus YUV component video. When connected to these iPods and the iPhone, the Component AV Cable unlocks the devices’ video-out features, which are hidden in iPod nano and classic Video Settings menus, and automatically accessed on the iPod touch and iPhone with a pop-up dialog box. Note that the cable supports a maximum of 480i output on the iPod touch and iPhone, which display nice on-screen cover graphics during playback, and 480p output on the iPod nano and classic, which display simpler-looking text instead.
